The small nation with the big heart! At Kalmar nation we pride ourselves on having a big heart, which means everyone is welcome – no matter their sexual orientation, identity, food preferences or taste in music. Speaking of music, we are well known for having some of the best clubs in Uppsala, focusing on dance-worthy indie music and groovy house/disco. How cool is it for you to be able to vote for your favorite song in the democratic dance floor during our Indie Clubs. In our cozy pub we often host open mic-nights, and every week the mixtape circle and choir meet up to experience music together. We also promote Indie scene bands to perform in our cozy pub during Kalmar Live.
Three words: Indie. Inclusive. Alternative.
Activities:
Mixtape circle: Everybody brings a song that fits the theme of the week, and listens to and discusses the songs.
Open mic nights (Spela @ Kalmar nation! on FB): every kind of performance is welcome: poetry, bands, orchestral, storytelling, performance art, you name it!
Choir (Kalmar nations kör on FB): Starting up this semester, Fall 2019! Anyone can join no matter their experience level, and participants have influence over which songs the choir sings.
Sports (Kalmar Nation IF on FB): Currently we are offering floor ball, which is like ice hockey without ice (or skates).
Yoga (Yoga på Kalmar nation on FB): Weekly yoga lessons with a variety of poses and routines.
Spex group (Spexgrupp på Kalmar nation on FB): Spex is a comedy performance, normally performed at fancy dinners and involves many puns.
Art group (Måla på Kalmar nation on FB): Painting, drawing, sketching – everything is encouraged in our art group. We supply any art supplies you need.
Photo group (Fotogruppen vid Kalmar nation on FB): Involves photography lessons, developing photos in our dark room and photo excursions, among other things.
Sewing Circle (Syjunta på Kalmar nation on FB): Are you interested in textile crafts? Knitting, crocheting, embroidery, needlepoint or simply how to mend your clothes – anything with fabric and thread.
